Life As a Teacher
Teachers are busy during the week preparing lessons, teaching, and tutoring.

But, if you manage your time well, there is a lot to explore. Hualien is a beautiful city situated on the east coast of Taiwan. The school (and teacher's apartment) is situated conveniently close to the Night Market, and other useful stores, beautiful temples, and close to the local church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Within 25 minutes, teachers can bike to either the ocean or to the mountains and springs. Taiwanese people are very friendly and have been very supportive of American teachers.

The wards here are super strong and the members of the church are very friendly! If you show them you are interested, they will make an effort to include you in all of the activities! Missionaries are happy to translate for you, but almost all of the members know a little English and many of them have no problem at all translating when needed! The temple is also a treasure to visit. You can enjoy other sights in Taipei while you are there.

Most teachers really get involved with the branch and are always invited to ward activities. Some teachers volunteer teaching English to adults with the missionaries and they sometimes go tracting with the sister missionaries on weekends.
Many people in Hualien are very active! Ward activities include biking trips and hikes, and you can always find someone to join you for an adventure to the springs to swim or even to a movie (shown in English with Chinese subtitles).
Hualien is described as the Haiwaii of Taiwan!
